Planning an Immersive Tourism Experience: Marketing, Branding and Goals

An engaging tourism experience begins with understanding your visitors and the story you want to share. Whether you are developing a literary trail, showcasing a filming location or exploring a virtual experience, a clear purpose will help guide your decisions.

UPLIFT Video Lesson 1: Marketing, Branding & Goals explores these foundations, helping tourism businesses and educators connect creative ideas with their audience, brand and business objectives.

Understand your audience

Who would be interested in your experience, and what would make it meaningful to them? Families, film enthusiasts, literary visitors and school groups may have different interests and expectations.

Identifying your audience helps you make more informed choices about content, activities and promotion. For example, a literary walking tour for dedicated readers might explore an author’s life in detail, while an experience for families could focus on characters, discovery and participation.

Build on your brand

An immersive experience should reflect what makes your business or destination distinctive. Local stories, cultural connections and the character of a place can provide a strong starting point.

Think about how the proposed experience fits with what visitors already know about you. Technology can help communicate your story, but the experience should also feel authentic and consistent with your wider offering.

Explain the value to visitors

A clear value proposition explains who the experience is for, what it offers and why someone should choose it.

Describe what visitors will discover, enjoy or feel. A virtual tour, for instance, might allow people to explore an otherwise inaccessible location or see a familiar place through the eyes of a fictional character. Communicating that benefit makes the experience easier to understand and promote.

Set goals you can measure

Clear goals help you assess whether an idea is working. Depending on your priorities, you might track enquiries, bookings, participation or visitor feedback.

Start with a manageable objective and decide how you will measure progress. Reviewing the results can help you refine both the experience and the way you communicate it.
